Changing hardware is way harder than changing software. Software, you can ship a new feature next week and then kill it next month. Hardware can take years. This is why I have an actual physical key on my keyboard whose default function is to show this dialog whenever I press it.
@dylanbeattie You can press that button whenever you want to utter a sigh of relief.

This is the inevitable fate of the copilot key

I wonder if manufacturers will be allowed to remap the Cortana button to the new Copilot button that the makers of Windows 11 partner hardware are now required to include. Maybe it'll only work if you press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+WIN+Cortana the same way CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+WIN+L opens LinkedIn.
@dylanbeattie I have a Microsoft Natural keyboard, which has a couple extra buttons. It has a dedicated key which, by default, brings up the configuration software. This lets you configure various keys for various functions. For the dedicated star key, it has two options:
* Bring up the configuration software (default)
* Do not bring up the configuration software.
If you activate the second option that key just does ... nothing.
@henryk @dylanbeattie Get AutoHotKey, save yourself.

Doh.
GAFAM hardware graveyard at your fingertips.
@dylanbeattie It looks like an important function where any time you're feeling too stressed or too proud you can press a button to be reminded of your own mortality.
The Romans called it a memento mori and we have many names for it including "Cortana" and "Stadia."
@dylanbeattie She's moved on to a career in TV in the Halo TV series...
@dylanbeattie With Linux you can just remap all keys however you like :)
@dylanbeattie
As Halo described, despite their 7 year functional life followed by descent into rampancy, the AIs serially named Cortana would have entire battleships built around them.
The real US Navy has of course emulated this precise path by also building, then decommissioning, two entire classes of AI-enabled battleships.
@dylanbeattie waiting for laptop manufacturers to just run QMK on their keyboard controllers already...
